AHJ – Authority Having Jurisdiction- The NFPA defined the AHJ as “an organization, office, or individual responsible for enforcing the requirements of a code or standard, or for approving equipment, materials, an installation, or a procedure.”

Certificate of Correction- a notarized form to certify correction of a violation/summonses issued by Department of Buildings and scheduled for a hearing at the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH)/Environmental Control Board (ECB). (from NYC.gov)

DOB – Department of buildings

Fire Code- law that establishes fire safety requirements for buildings and businesses. The Fire Code regulates such matters as emergency preparedness; the prevention and reporting of fires; the manufacture, storage, handling, use and transportation of hazardous materials and combustible materials; the conduct of various businesses and activities that pose fire hazards; and the design, installation, operation and maintenance of the buildings and premises that house such materials, businesses and activities. Full building retrofit- bring entire existing building fire protection system up to current code specifications.

Ground up- new full-building fire protection system installation

NFPA – National Fire Protection Association- The leading information and knowledge resource on fire, electrical and related hazards. NFPA publishes more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and effects of fire and other risks. www.nfpa.org

NFPA 25 – the National Fire Protection Association standard for inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems. Compliance helps maximize system integrity to avoid failure and ensure fast, effective response in a fire emergency.

NFSA – National Fire Sprinkle Association- Their mission is to protect lives and property from fire through the widespread acceptance of the fire sprinkler concept. They offer training, support and education to their members and help educate the public about the importance of proper fire sprinkler system design and maintenance.

Tenant space upgrades- upgrade fire safety system in single tenant or rental space within building only.

White box- rip entire existing system out and design/ install new system in a clean and open environment
